API: Application Programming Interface
Catalogue: a search functionality on a set of metadata records
Catalogue Service for the Web (OGC:CSW): a standard protocol to serve metadata records on spatial datasets over the web
Environmental data: data about environmental phenomena, such as landscape, soil, water, weather, vegetation.
Esri shapefile: A format to store spatial tabular data by Esri Inc. Each dataset consists of a number of files, with different extensions such as .shp, .dbf, .shn. The files are often packaged in a zip archive.
Git: Git is a distributed version control system[9] that tracks versions of files. It is often used to control source code by programmers who are developing software collaboratively. source: wikipedia
Github: a service provider for git repositories. A number of additional services is provided on top of git to facilitate the community
Geotiff: a metadata standard which allows georeferencing information to be embedded within a TIFF file. source: wikipedia
Map viewer: a vizualisation tool for spatial data
Web Map Service (OGC:WMS): a standard protocol developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium for serving georeferenced map images over the Internet. These images are typically produced by a map server from data provided by a GIS database. source: wikipedia
Web Feature Service (OGC:WFS): a standard protocol to serve sets of spatial features of a vector dataset over the internet
Web Coverage Service (OGC:WCS): a standard protocol to serve parts of a grid dataset (coverage) over the internet
ph: a scale for measuring the acidity of a solution
Qgis: a desktop application to vizualise and analyse various types of spatial data. website
